Grasim Industries Limited has asked affected equity shareholders to submit a valid claim by 15 September 2026. Its notice says that identified shares for which no valid claim is received by that date will be transferred to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF) without further notice.
Grasim’s investor page separately lists 28 September 2026 as the due date for transfer of the unpaid or unclaimed dividend for FY 2018–19. These are two different dates: 15 September is the claim cutoff stated in the notice, while 28 September is the dividend transfer due date displayed by the company.
This development does not affect every Grasim shareholder. Investors should check the company’s shareholder-level information and confirm the current status of their folio or demat holding with Grasim or its Registrar and Transfer Agent before deciding which claim route applies. See Grasim’s official unpaid dividend and IEPF page.
Key facts
- Company: Grasim Industries Limited
- Claim cutoff in the notice: 15 September 2026
- FY 2018–19 dividend transfer due date: 28 September 2026
- Relevant holdings: Equity shares linked to dividends that have remained unpaid or unclaimed for seven consecutive years, subject to the company’s records and the applicable IEPF Rules
What Grasim’s notice says
The notice was issued under Section 124(6) of the Companies Act, 2013 and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority Rules. It explains that equity shares are required to be transferred to IEPF where the associated dividend has remained unpaid or unclaimed for seven consecutive years.
Grasim states that individual communications were sent to the concerned shareholders and that details of unpaid or unclaimed dividends and shares due for transfer were uploaded on its website.
According to the notice, if the company does not receive a valid claim for the identified equity shares by 15 September 2026, those shares will be transferred to IEPF without further notice. The cutoff should not, however, be treated as confirmation that every listed holding has already been transferred.
Why 15 September and 28 September are different
The 15 September 2026 date comes from Grasim’s shareholder notice. It is the last date stated by the company for receipt of a valid claim before the identified shares are processed for transfer.
The 28 September 2026 date appears in the dividend-history table on Grasim’s investor page. It is shown as the due date for transfer of the unpaid or unclaimed FY 2018–19 dividend to IEPF.
Practical point: Do not assume that a claim sent at the last moment has been accepted, or that a holding has transferred merely because a date has passed. Obtain a holding-specific acknowledgement or status confirmation from the company or its RTA.
Who may be affected?
The notice is relevant principally to shareholders identified in Grasim’s records as having dividends that remained unpaid or unclaimed for seven consecutive years and whose corresponding shares are liable for transfer.
- Investors holding old physical Grasim share certificates or folios
- Demat holders who may have missed dividends because of outdated bank or contact details
- Nominees or legal heirs managing a deceased shareholder’s holding
- Shareholders who received an individual communication or whose details appear in the company’s IEPF records
Important dates
What affected shareholders should do
- Check the company’s records. Visit Grasim’s official IEPF page and review the available details of shares proposed for transfer.
- Identify the holding correctly. Keep the physical folio number or the demat DP ID and Client ID available. Avoid publishing these details publicly.
- Contact Grasim or KFin Technologies. Ask whether the holding appears in the proposed-transfer data and what documents are presently required for a valid claim.
- Retain evidence of submission. Preserve the service-request number, email acknowledgement, courier proof and copies of the documents supplied.
- Confirm the actual transfer status. The correct route depends on whether the holding remains with the company/RTA or has already moved to IEPF.
Requirements can differ where there is a name or signature mismatch, an old physical certificate, a deceased holder, joint holders or incomplete KYC. Shareholders should use the current checklist supplied for their particular case.
What happens if the shares are transferred?
For physical holdings, Grasim’s notice says new certificates will be issued for the transfer and the original certificates registered in the shareholder’s name will stand cancelled. For electronic holdings, the transfer will be carried out through the depository.
The notice also states that unclaimed dividends, transferred shares and benefits accruing on those shares can be claimed after following the procedure prescribed under the IEPF Rules.
If transfer is confirmed, the claimant should review the current MCA instruction kit for Form IEPF-5. Do not begin an IEPF-5 claim merely because the cutoff has passed; first confirm the holding’s actual status.
Frequently asked questions
Does the 15 September cutoff mean the shares transfer that day?
Not necessarily. It is the valid-claim cutoff stated in the notice. Grasim’s investor page separately gives 28 September 2026 as the FY 2018–19 dividend transfer due date. The actual status should be confirmed for the individual holding.
Are all Grasim shares affected?
No. The notice concerns shares associated with dividends that remained unpaid or unclaimed for seven consecutive years and that are identified as liable for transfer under the applicable records and rules.
Can shares and dividends be claimed after transfer?
The notice says they can be claimed from IEPF by following the prescribed process. The claimant should first obtain confirmation of transfer and then check the current Form IEPF-5 requirements.
What if no individual notice was received?
Not receiving a letter does not by itself establish whether a holding is affected. Check Grasim’s published information and seek a holding-specific response from the company or its RTA.
The practical next step
With the notice’s 15 September cutoff approaching, affected shareholders should prioritise a holding-level status check. Confirm whether the records identify the holding, whether a submitted claim is considered valid and whether the company/RTA or IEPF route currently applies.
